The Dallas Cowboys have the 9th pick in the upcoming draft and whoever they pick will have an effect on the Lions. Many mock drafts either have the Cowboys selecting OT Tyron Smith or CB Prince Amukamara. Those two are also the most popular selections for the Lions in the first round in mock drafts. It looks like whoever the ‘Boys get, the Lions will pick the other.

According to many, the biggest need for the Cowboys is Offensive Tackle. Tyron Smith is regarded by most to be the best tackle in this year’s draft. Tyron Smith has the talent to walk in and play for the Cowboys right away (if there is a training camp). It sounds like it should be an easy selection for them to pick Smith at the 9th spot but that isn’t true. It is going to be difficult for Jerry Jones and company to pass on Prince Amukamara. Cornerback isn’t a huge need for the ‘Boys but Amukamara’s talent is worthy of the a top ten pick.

Join us each day as we count down towards the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft. The countdown runs from 50 to zero and the number of days remaining will inspire the post for that day. Think of this as your NFL draft paper chain that loses one link each day!

Progress. I don’t know about you, but that is all I needed to see out of the Lions in the 2010 season. Debate raged on throughout most of the season as to whether or not the Lions were actually making any progress. Some said yes based on what they were seeing each Sunday while others firmly said no because the wins just weren’t coming.

The number 15 serves as the inspiration for today’s post since there are 15 days remaining until the first round of the NFL draft. It was week 15 that definitively signified that the Lions had taken a step forward.

Remember back to your younger days where your parents would ask you what you wanted for your Birthday? Let’s say you asked for an iPod touch. Knowing your parents you specifically told them the model, color, and style. You basically gave them all the necessary info which gave you the confidence that they would go out and purchase the exact iPod you wanted. The day comes; you open your gift only to be completely disappointed by the fact that they bought you a Sony Walkman. You told them a million times in clear plain English to get you the cool hip iPod. Instead they bought a Sony Walkman.

With the NFL draft quickly approaching, fans are essentially doing the same thing. They are reading up on prospects, analyzing team needs, and feeding off daily news updates on the draft. All in all, trying to figure out the exact player that would be the ideal fit on their team. With that being said the Lions have a lot of scenarios in this draft. They can go cornerback. Prince is out there or Jimmy Smith. They can go Offensive Tackle. Anthony Constanzo, Tyron Smith if he falls, and Nate Solder are options.
