ESPN NFL draft gurus Mel Kiper and Todd McShay released their updated mock drafts today and they show a striking similarity as far as the Lions are concerned. Who do they think the Lions will take with the 13th overall pick? Prince Amukamara.
McShay goes so far as to say the pick represents a “dream scenario” for the Lions. Kiper voices some concern over Amukamara’s fit into the Lions’ defensive scheme but feels that the combination of talent and need squashes what ever questions may exist.
The pick agreement continues into the second round with North Carolina linebacker Bruce Carter. The Lions will need to be confident in the health of Carter’s knee to make him their pick at 44 overall but would be a great value at a position of need. Carter probably would have been a first round pick if not for an ACL injury last season.
Kiper and McShay diverge in the third round. Mel has the Lions taking Florida offensive tackle Marcus Gilbert while McShay favors Daniel Thomas, a running back from Kansas State.
