Join us each day as we count down towards the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft. The countdown runs from 50 to zero and the number of days remaining will inspire the post for that day. Think of this as your NFL draft paper chain that loses one link each day!
With 23 days remaining until the NFL draft let’s take a minute to remember that number bears some importance with the man drafted number one overall in the 2009 draft.
Not only did Matthew Stafford leave Georgia a year early, he did so as one of the younger members of his class. The upcoming season will already be his third but he will take it on as just a 23 year old. It could be easy to think that injuries are costing Stafford his prime developmental years but that really isn’t the case. He is only 15 months older than Cam Newton, perhaps the top quarterback prospect in the 2011 draft, but has a jump on the quarterback learning curve that suggests much more. Stafford is only four months older than Ryan Mallett, a couple weeks older than Christian Ponder and a few months younger than Andy Dalton and Colin Kaepernick!
Players drafted number 23 overall by the Detroit Lions:
Danny Larose (1961), Jeff Hartings (1996)
