Detroit Lions NFL Draft Countdown: 24 Days

Join us each day as we count down towards the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft. The countdown runs from 50 to zero and the number of days remaining will inspire the post for that day. Think of this as your NFL draft paper chain that loses one link each day!

Today marks the 24 days remaining point in our countdown towards the NFL draft. 24 is the spot the Lions will be picking next draft if they show the same level of improvement as they did from 2009 to 2010.

The Lions selected Ndamukong Suh with the second pick last April. Their play in 2010 earned them a pick 11 spots lower in this upcoming draft. Going 11 spots lower from 13 would put them at 24.

Is it possible? I suppose. The New Orleans Saints hold this year’s 24th pick as the team with the best record to lose in the first round of the playoffs. Equating the 2010 Saints to a possible 2011 Lions teams seems like a stretch. Anything below pick 20 would be welcomed as that would mean the Lions found their way into the playoffs just three seasons after finishing.

Players drafted number 24 overall by the Detroit Lions:
Stan Mohrbacher (1945), Charlie Hoover (1947), Jim Salsbury (1955), John Gordy (1957), Eddie Wilson (1962), Nick Eddy (1966), Earl McCulloch (1968),
