Join us each day as we count down towards the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft. The countdown runs from 50 to zero and the number of days remaining will inspire the post for that day. Think of this as your NFL draft paper chain that loses one link each day!
32 days remain until the Lions make their first round selection in the 2011 NFL draft. For the first time in a couple years the Lions will make the selection after a season in which they weren’t ranked 32 out of 32 in defense.
The Lions improvement on defense is one of the biggest reasons fans should be optimistic about the organization’s future, especially since the defense is far from a finished product. Glaring holes exist in the back seven yet the team fielded an actual NFL caliber defense for the first time in recent memory in 2010.
A nice defensive haul in the upcoming draft would really build some excitement. Could Prince Amukamara slide to the Lions at pick 13? Could Jimmy Smith slide for the Lions to grab him at a spot that would minimize his risk? Could the Lions find a draft day value pick with a player undervalued due to injury concerns like Bruce Carter? It would be nice.
