Although Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford tweeted that he will start throwing this week, his head coach, Jim Schwartz, said Tuesday that the 2009 first overall pick wasn’t quite there yet.
But Schwartz is confident that Stafford is on his way to beating the injury bug that has derailed his first two seasons.
Mayhew said that while he had a positive talk with Smith, the club will continue to evaluate players leading up to the draft. When asked if Smith had been taken off Detroit’s draft board because of character issues, Mayhew wouldn’t answer, saying that the organization would begin to hold personnel meetings in the next couple of weeks.
The NFL decided not to change the “process of the catch” rule that cost Calvin Johnson a touchdown last year, but another questionable call that went against the Detroit Lions could lead to improvements in instant replay.
