One NFC Wild Card is still up for grabs and the Lions may end up playing an important role in who gets it.

The Green Bay Packers have the inside track, win against the Chicago Bears on Sunday and they are in. With a Packers victory over the Bears anything but a sure thing, the playoff scenarios get interesting. The New York Giants and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are also still alive, this is where the Lions might come in.

Let’s say the Packers lose to the Bears and the Giants and Bucs both win. That would leave the Giants and Bucs with identical 10-6 records but only one will move on to the playoffs. In this case, the tiebreaker that comes into play is record against common opponents, of which the Lions is one. The Giants would end up 5-0 against common opponents while the Bucs would lose the tiebreaker due to their 4-1 record in those games. That one loss? The Lions.
