New York Giants vs. Minnesota Vikings Game to be Played in Detroit

The collapse of the Metrodome roof has necessitated a move of the Vikings regularly scheduled game with the New York Giants. The game had already been moved from Sunday afternoon to Monday night and now it will also move cities.

The University of Minnesota has a football stadium that is just two years old but won’t be ready on short notice because it has already been winterized. With no local options remaining to play locally, the NFL looked elsewhere.

The Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants will now have to travel to Detroit to play their game at Ford Field on Monday night.

Kickoff will be at 7:20 PM local time and will be free with general admission seating. The Ford Field box office will open at 9 a.m. to distribute free tickets. Ticket stubs from the Lions-Packers games will also be honored. Any fans that make the trip to Detroit that had tickets to the game at the Metrodome will have preferred seating.

Why not just play it at TCF and be done with it?

Because the stadium has been winterized and couldn’t be ready for a game Monday night. The NFL obviously put a priority on playing this game without creating a scheduling problem for subsequent weeks.
