Aside from Minnesota’s design change, I really don’t see how the uniform change would really affect the “tradition” of the NFC North. I actually like the uniform changes. SOme teams in the NFL would really benefit from a little hype on their unis. Chicago would still retain the “classic” essence of its uniform, the only two major changes in the Lions’ uni is “Lions” on the chest and the number going back to block form, and the Packers still retain their overall classic look, as well. The Vikings, well, their uniforms look gaudy in their current state, and would retain the same gaudy look, anyway.

I don’t think the change in uniform design will really take away from the game. Also, the Nike Combat Unis have more of a second skin feeling than the actual 5 or 6 pounds of additional weight presented by traditional uniforms.

The thought of a subtle Pro Combat design did occur to me as I was writing this post but the fact remains the same: the design is a marketing gimmick. That’s not what the NFC North is about, Brett Favre notwithstanding.

As for the second skin feel, I’m all for technological advances in fabrics. Just don’t mess with the look of the traditional NFL brand.

Unfortunately, the NFL as a whole IS a marketing gimmick.

Vikings unis gaudy? Are you smoking crack? Their logo and colors are the best in the NFL. With the deep purple and horns..CLASSIC! Now, this new uni design? HELL NO! Do not want the lighter purple or the ridiculous looking yellow pants and helmet. It is bad enough the NFL makes us watch Packer and Steeler games with those neon yellow colors. Makes me nauseous. Please Steeler owners, do not wear those yellow helmets EVER again. On a bright sunny day, it is impossible to enjoy the game!

I agree with you Zac, the NFC North has too much tradition in their uniforms to change them. I also think it is good for college teams and newer, less tradition NFL teams, but I can’t see any of the NFC North teams wearing these uniforms.

Honolulu Blue is as wild as it gets in the NFC North? Um, what about the Vikings’… neon purple?

(And you’re making fun of the Jaguars for wearing teal. You seem to be suggesting teal is an effeminate colour. Yeah, how about bright purple?)

I guess I don’t consider the Vikings purple to be neon, not that I give much thought to shades of purple. I give them the benefit of the doubt over the Jags because the Vikings have been purple for so long that it has become traditional. The statement about the teal was in relation to a traditional athletic color pallet, not the level of masculinity.

packers look like baylor, and vikings look like LSU
