NFL Means "No Fun Loss" for Detroit Lions Against Chicago Bears

Matthew Stafford was knocked out in the first half, Jay Cutler threw for nearly 400 yards and yet the Lions were on the cusp of pulling their first road win in 20 games.

Then the NFL rule book got involved.

Calvin Johnson grasped a 25-yard pass in the end zone from Shaun Hill, got both feet down, went down to the ground with the ball in one hand, landed on his side, got another hand down on the ground and finally released the ball from his other hand as the ball hit the ground. Apparently “the process” wasn’t completed; incomplete pass.

Shaun Hill and Calvin Johnson seemingly did everything they needed to do to come up with a big play except make sure there was enough time to elect a president before letting go of the ball. If CJ needs someone to talk to, I’m sure Armando Galarraga can sympathize.

Welcome to the NFL, where the letter of the law trumps the spirit of the law each and every time.
