Ndamukong Suh’s Holdout May Not Be Worth The Extra Money

Ndamukong Suh was the consensus pick among Lions fans. He was the man they wanted and he is the man they got. Fans immediately responded by making Suh’s number 90 jersey a top seller, second among rookies to only Tim Tebow’s Denver Bronco threads.

Fans’ excitement was furthered by Ndamukong Suh’s statement that he wanted to report to camp on time. Then reality hit.

I am getting the feeling that a majority of Lions fans are changing their tunes regarding Mr. Suh. Perhaps the turning of the tides are a function of the moment, something that will subside once the contract is done and the team begins the season, perhaps not. Let me know what you think about the situation.

Does Ndamukong Suh's holdout change your opinion of him?

I don’t have a problem with a guy getting as much money up front as possible. It’s a byproduct of the non-guaranteed contract.

The money committed to rookies is ridiculous though. I would strongly support a hard slotting system. It would get guys into camp on time, and end te year over year escalation.

The trust factor with Suh is slowly deteriorating. He volunteered “I won’t be a holdout”. But somehow he ended up committing to an agent known to be a holdout maker. Suh was warned about the agent or at least everyone else in the building knew about the agents reputation. The longer this lasts, the more Suh will be marked as a holdout and any lack of performance or injury will be blamed on it.

You’re right on with your last sentence. There will be no excuses for poor performance now.

I really hope this all works out in the end. I think Suh is a good kid that is getting bad advice right now. The sooner this comes to an end the better it will be for everyone.

This holdout says to me that he is either unsure of his own abilities or unsure of his health / durability. If he is as promised, his performace will get him the money he feels he is entitled to. Either way, the Lions should be cautious in dealing with a player / agent that would hold out like this. Clearly Mr Suh and his agent do not understand Detroit or the Lion Fans. This is downright disrespectful to the city, the organization, and most importantly the fans. We have been down too long to accept this! If he’s not in camp by August 5th I think people should return their Suh jersey or exchange it for a Best jersey.
