With 7 days until the start of training camp I would like to get a little historical. The history of the Detroit Lions and their Hall of Fame quarterback Earl “Dutch” Clark reveals an interesting tidbit concerning the number 7.
According to the Detroit Lions All-Time Roster only one Lion has ever worn the number 7: Dutch Clark. In addition to having the distinction of being worn by only Dutch Clark, 7 is the only number to have appeared on just one player.
Clark played for the Lions from 1934-1938 and was the starting quarterback in the Lions very first Thanksgiving Day game. His career actually got started in 1931 with the Lions predecessor, the Portsmouth Spartans, but he left to spend a season as coach for the Colorado School of Mines in 1933.
