Matt Stafford Is Your Detroit Lions Starting Quarterback. The Mayhew Era Is Officially Upon Us.

It’s official.

The Lions are paying Stafford a lot of money and… This is it. This is the direction that they want.

I’m crying crocodile tears for Dante Culpepper, if you lose the starting job to a rookie in this NFL, you weren’t giving it all of you’ve got (or what you got ain’t enough).

It is now the Matt Stafford era. Mayhew drafted a QB first overall and the coaching staff has chosen to throw him in the ring and see if he can throw a punch. I can’t decide if I’m optimistic about it all; I was thinking the Bengals Kitna/Palmer situation, but we apparently don’t have that here.

Stafford looked alright in the Pre Season. Didn’t blow my mind by any means, but I did see a great deal of potential in his size, power and accuracy. There were a few ugly ones that I would give up to jitters including some terrible reads, but when the play developed in our favor Matt was dropping balls right between the numbers. He can do it. The question is, will he?

This is it ya’ll! We are here. This is the new Lions. The face of the franchise is starting at QB and the other will be catching his passes. Schwartz/Mayhew Era: Take 1
