you're picking the two or three... ignoring the overwhelming amount O-Line and Defensive Picks.

I think the offense was 31st. Defense was the worst.

I mean... the holes are so ****ing gaping. They literally need one of everything.

Did they draft the best at their position in the first round of the draft? Yeah.
Matt Stafford was the best QB, Pettigrew was the best TE.

Do I trust the Lions? no.
Do I like the picks? No.

With the schedule they've pulled, it doesn't matter, they're going to get brutalized. if I look like an ass in 5 years, fine, at least I'll get to root for a winning team. We've had all of these promises before though...

and it capped off to an 0-16 season, so don't get your hopes up.

So your argument is what exactly? That only good teams draft tight ends in the first round? Just looking at the drafts of the teams you picked seems contrary to your own logic. The Colts took Dallas Clark 4 years BEFORE they won the Super Bowl. Heath Miller? Yeah, he was drafted the year prior to the Steelers win in 2006, and just check out what he did in the post season that year.

The Giants drafted Shockey in the first round 2 years before Manning, and the only reason they let him go was they found another gem in Boss.

I mean, you seem to be providing stats contrary to your argument. It seems to me that all these good teams recognize the value of the TE. Lets look at teams that have drafted a TE in the first round the past 10 years in order and the teams record the year prior to the draft:

2009 - Lions (0-16)
2008 - Jets (4-12)
2007 - Bears (13-3)
2006 - Niners (4-12)
2005 - Steelers (15-1)
2004 - Browns (5-11)
2003 - Colts (12-4)
2002 - Giants (10-6)
2001 - Ravens (10-6)
2000 - Packers (9-7)

So 40% of the teams that drafted a TE in the first round were below .500. We are 1 pick away from a 50-50 split. People also seem to forget the Lions team rankings last year....dead last in offense. Yup, that's right they were the worst offensive team in the NFL. We need help everywhere, TE included. Maybe this article can help you understand the importance of the TE:
