The Lions officially released six players today: cornerback Leigh Bodden, tight end Dan Campbell, offensive lineman Jon Dunn, wide receiver Mike Furrey, offensive lineman Edwin Mulitalo and safety Dwight Smith.
General manager Martin Mayhew informed players of their impending release over the past couple of weeks, but teams could not begin releasing players until today, under NFL rules.
We’ve known that a lot of these were coming, it seems as though there is a concise effort to eliminate the remnants of the Millen Era. It’s going to take a season or two and its going to destroy our cap penalties but, you’ve got to break eggs to make an omelette people!
So we don’t know how Mayhew is going to do… but we do know that the new guys are trimming down the fat that Millen built up over the last 8 years.
