Our friend at the The Pewter Plank thinks it’s a possibility.
I say anything you can get for Williams, get it. We’ve got Calvin and he is paid a ton. We’re playing poorly, odds are that means a top five pick that we’re going to have to pay for and Roy just won’t fit in as he’s going to want a fat pay check. I don’t feel that he’s good enough to franchise, so screw that. If you do nothing, he’s going to walk. Someone will pay him and they won’t be a god awful team like our Lions, perhaps the situation will be more stable (Tampa or Dallas?)
Blockbuster trades rarely happen in the NFL. Why? As I’ve said a million times. You butter your bread in the draft. If someone is worth having, you’re going to keep him. If you want to unload someone, other teams are not naive, they are going to wonder why you want to get rid of this guy. generally the only time someone gets dumped off is because they are due a large sum of money that will eat up cap space and the GM or coach feels strongly that he can get the job done with the other players that he has.
Is Roy top caliber? On another team, maybe. Will he play every down? Stop creating turnovers?
For a Third rounder, I’ll drive down to Allen Park and pack his bags for him, I’ll even drive him to DTW and make awkward conversation to try to lighten the mood. Love you Roy, and I will eagerly follow your career in another city.
