No one can say what exactly happened, and I'm aware police can lie/trump up charges. But Pearson still got himself into a bad situation with his <em>pregnant girlfriend</em> where the police felt they had to interfere. Some of the hating also comes from Marinelli talking the guy up as having character, then he found himself behind bars soon after. Not a good way to impress the Detroit fans.
