It blows up in their face.
During his presser, Rod Marinelli just announced Army safety Caleb Campbell will not be allowed to play for the Lions in 2008. He will instead report for his tour of duty with the US Army, and begin to serve out his military obligations.
Damn.
I’m not going to make any Iraq >>> Lions jokes, crucify Matt Millen for wasting a draft pick (I’m not going to rag on Millen for the Army reneging on Campbell’s alternative service) or go on about a war that’s accomplished nothing other than kill our youth. None of that matters.
I’m just going to wish Caleb Campbell all the best, and thank him for his service to our country.
Stay safe, kid.
Edit 4:40 PM:
Here’s the Detroit News’ piece on the Army’s decision.
The Freep tells us Campbell can apply for release from active duty in May of 2010.
