Dan Orlovsky signs, making the Matt Ryan rumors even more ludicrous
The Lions announced the signing of three backups today.
Signed were offensive guard Stephen Peterman and defensive tackle Langston Moore. I’m sure your reaction was the same as mine, “Big damn deal.”
Peterman is a depth for the O-line, a guy who won’t hurt you too much if he needs to be inserted in place of an injured starter. Moore is a contributer, was part of the D-line rotation, but he is what he is, an average, at best, NFL player. Neither are what you’d consider special.
The third player signed was significant in that it flies in the face of the “Lions are interested in Matt Ryan” rumors, as they inked backup QB Dan Orlovsky to a one year deal. It’ll be Orlovsky’s fourth season with the Lions, and pretty much sets Detroit’s QB hierarchy in stone.
Jon Kitna, Drew Stanton, Dan Orlovsky, in that order.
All three are under contract, and all three are very familiar with the Lions offense, otherwise known as the bastardized love child of Jim Colletto, KIPPY! and the long gone and wiped from the Lions’ memory Mike Martz.
Why the Lions would show any interest in Ryan, other than as a smokescreen to hide their true wants, is beyond me. Which is why I don’t believe they are interested in Ryan, or any other QB, till late in the draft, if at all. I just hope we put this Ryan ridiculousness behind us, and pay attention to Detroit’s main position of need, if taken care of this weekend, would insure a good season.
That would be drafting of a new President and GM.
Hey, a fan can dream, can’t he?!
