Lions re-sign end Corey Smith, but defensive end is still an issue

When I heard the news the Lions re-signed defensive end Corey Smith, my first response was, “Yeah, that’s going to put them over the top…” Add in an eye roll, and you’d have the complete picture.
What I really love is the Detroit spin on the signing…
In 2007, he played in all 16 games (two starts) [...]

Jon Kitna - We’re going to be a better football team. Lions fans - You’re joking, right?

Jon Kitna keeps writing checks he, and his team, can’t cash. I guess he didn’t learn his lesson from last off season, as he tells the media, once again, he thinks the Lions should win 10 games.
“Last year was not a prediction, it was a statement of fact that if we didn’t win 10 games, [...]

The roster carnage continues: Kenoy Kennedy is sent packing

With Lions Nation (if there is such a thing) still buzzing over Thursday’s controversial release of Kevin Jones, and the long overdue release of Kalimba Edwards, the announcement today of another veteran being given the proverbial bust ticket out of town was not surprising.
The moron twins, Matt Millen and Rod Marinelli, continued their roster housecleaning [...]

Lions Logic strikes again: Kevin Jones released

I have some good news and bad news, Lions fans. 2 more of the porn ’stached goon’s high draft picks were given their walking papers today. One cut was totally expected, and the other was a jaw dropping stunner, a cut no one saw coming.
Let’s start with the good news, slight as it may be…
2002 [...]

The Lions off season so far: You can’t tell the former Bucs without a scorecard

The Buccaneers declined matching Kalvin Pearson’s offer sheet today, which officially makes him a member of the Lions.
May God have mercy on your soul. You have entered the depths of NFL Hell.
With the welcome of warning to Pearson out of the way, on to more important business. That being the dissection the Lions’ off [...]

As it worked so well the first time around, Lions re-sign Tatum Bell

With the only healthy running back on the Lions roster being the suck filled Aveion Cason, they added to their “depth” (term used quite loosely) by bring back Tatum Bell for 2008. Bell was lured back to Detroit thanks to a 1 year, $1.6-million deal.
This isn’t a typo, or a case of mistaken identity. This [...]

Bucs, Bucs, everywhere a Buc

Saturday afternoon the Lions announced the signing of another Tampa Bay Buccaneer to a 3 year deal, free agent corner Brian Kelly. The acquisition of Kelly raised to 4 (Kelly, Kalvin Pearson, Dwight Smith, Chuck Darby) the number of Buccaneers signed by the Lions in 2008 free agency.
I can only imagine what runs through Marinelli’s [...]

Former Buccaneers wanted, all others need not apply

The parade of aging former Buccaneers coming to Detroit continued yesterday with the signing of DT Chuck Darby, who essentially replaces the terminally hungry Shaun Rogers. I predicted this signing a few days ago, calling it a “done deal” for only one reason…His Tampa Bay Bucs background.
Darby spent the last 3 seasons with Seattle, but [...]

The Lions off season plan is…I have absolutely no idea. Apparently, neither do the Lions

While the Lions were busy cornering the market on mediocre safeties, their linebacking corps continued to shrink. Over the past 2 days, both Teddy Lehman and Boss Bailey signed free agent deals. Yesterday, Lehman became a Buccaneer (Odd to see a Lion become a Buc, rather than vice versa) and today, Bailey joined his more [...]

The Lions sign 4 players. The fans ask, “Why sign those stiffs?”

Today, the Lions signed several free agent players to contracts. (You can read my diatribe over the offer sheet to safety Kalvin Pearson below) Along with Pearson, the Lions re-signed cornerback Travis Fisher and running back Avieon Cason, while also signing free agent training camp tackling dummy offensive lineman Corey Hulsey.
I’m utterly and totally…underwhelmed.
Fisher is [...]
