Lions sign another backup linebacker, surprisingly isn’t a former Buccaneer
Over the last day, the only actual news from the Lions was word of another free agent signing. An extremely minor free agent signing. They inked linebacker Alfred Fincher, who had spent his entire career, all 3 years of it, with the New Orleans Saints.
I’m assuming this was a signing aimed at shoring up the Lions sad sack special teams, as there would be no other reason to sign Fincher, his being a career backup. The best we can hope for is his helping on special teams, as there is absolutely no reason to expect a linebacker who made all of 3 tackles in 2007 to contribute on defense.
When the best the local fishwrap can say about Fincher is which current Lion was his teammate in college…
“Fincher played with Lions quarterback Dan Orlovsky at Connecticut.”
…rather than mention anything about his on the field accomplishments, that says it all.
