The roster carnage continues: Kenoy Kennedy is sent packing
With Lions Nation (if there is such a thing) still buzzing over Thursday’s controversial release of Kevin Jones, and the long overdue release of Kalimba Edwards, the announcement today of another veteran being given the proverbial bust ticket out of town was not surprising.
The moron twins, Matt Millen and Rod Marinelli, continued their roster housecleaning with the release of safety Kenoy Kennedy.
Once the Lions signed Tampa safeties Kalvin Pearson and Dwight Smith, giving the Lions 7 safeties on he roster, it was a given someone in the defensive backfield was going to go. The obvious name being thrown about was the highly paid Kennedy. He was lured away from Denver by a 5 year, $14 million free agent contract in 2005.
Kennedy was supposed to be the big hitter the Lions’ secondary sorely needed, but never lived up to the free agent hype. Instead of laying the wood on receivers crossing the middle, the only impact Kennedy made was to the Lions’ salary cap.
So now we can add Kenoy Kennedy to the list of the porn ’stached goon’s expensive, cap space eating, high profile free agent signings that either flamed out or couldn’t wait to get out.

Bill Schroeder
Dre’ Bly
Damien Woody
Fernando Bryant
Marcus Pollard
Jeff Garcia
Corey Bradford
Josh McCown
Rex Tucker
T.J. Duckett
All of those players were supposed to be part of the solution, but for one reason or another, they just added to the problems.
Just to show you no matter how many things change on the Lions, they stay the same, I found this 2005 blurb on Scout.com claiming the signing of Kennedy would immediately solidify the Lions pass defense…
Kennedy is the top free agent safety in the market and immediately solidifies the Lions secondary. Kennedy is expected to team with third year player Terrence Holt or incumbent Brock Marion to give the Lions a much improved secondary over a season ago.
All you need to do is change the names, and it sounds much like what we are hearing from the Lions in 2008.

He never did fit the Lions scheme which is…ummm….you know….bend but…the Tampa Poop ohhh never mind.
