Good riddance!

Posted by: Zach

Long a thorn in the side of the Detroit Lions, the Packers’ great QB, Brett Favre, retired today. As sad as John Madden is over this news, this Lions fan is thrilled! My first thought when I heard about Favre’s retirement was, “Good riddance!” Though I have to admit mean “Good Riddance” to be taken as a huge compliment.

I’m glad to see him go, as I’m sick and tired watching Favre beat the Lions like a toy drum. Especially at Lambeau Field, where the Lions NEVER beat him. Never! There’s 3 constants in life. Death, taxes and Favre beating the Lions at Lambeau.

Favre beat the Lions many times over the years, there’s one loss which really stands out. In fact, it’s one of the most painful losses in Lions history. That being the 1994 wild card playoff game at the Silverdome, a game the Lions had won. “Had” being the operative word.

I can still see it now. Under a minute left, Packers need a touchdown to win. Favre takes the snap, rolls to the right, and he flings 40 yard bomb to a wide open Sterling Sharpe. Just like that, season over. Favre had beat the Lions again, 28-24.

That was typical Favre. A hall of fame QB who beat you with a flair for the dramatic, while having more fun than anyone else on the field. He deserves kudos all around, even from we Favre traumatized fans in Detroit, for a great career.
